Iconic female groups are joining forces for tour. Here’s when they come to KC
Three female hip-hop and R&B groups who dominated the ‘90s will come together for a country-wide tour, and Kansas City is one of the stops.
TLC, Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue will embark on the It’s Iconic Tour this summer. This includes a stop in Kansas City on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Starlight Theatre.
TLC is one of the highest-selling girl groups of all time, selling over 85 million records worldwide thanks to hit records like “Waterfalls,” “Creep,” “No Scrubs” and more. The group was founded by Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.
The latter artist was killed in 2002 following a car crash in Honduras. T-Boz and Chilli continued performing as a duo following her death.
Salt-N-Pepa broke barriers in hip-hop as an all-female rap group. The group consisting of Cheryl Renee “Salt” James, Sandra “Pepa” Denton and DJ Spinderella became the first female hip-hop group to earn platinum certification with their debut album, “Hot, Cool & Vicious.”
The group has been recognized throughout the music industry for their contributions to hip-hop. This includes Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Salt-N-Pepa’s 1993 album “Very Necessary” has sold 5 million copies, the group’s highest-selling project to date.
En Vogue will deliver decades of hits on the tour, having sold over 20 million records between seven studio albums. The group is known for its hit singles like “Hold On,” “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It),” “Whatta Man“ and many more.
En Vogue’s sophomore album “Funky Divas” has sold over 5 million copies. The group previously performed in Kansas City in 2021 at Hyvee Arena.
