Popular indie artist cancels tour days before planned concert in Lawrence

Julien Baker was supposed to return to Lawrence on Saturday, May 10, for her fourth show in seven years. But now the Send A Prayer My Way Tour has been canceled.

According to a post on both Baker’s and TORRES’ Instagram accounts, the indie singer-songwriter needs time to focus on her health.

“Due to recent events, Julien Baker is prioritizing her well-being and taking time to focus on her health. Therefore, the Julien Baker & TORRES ‘Send A Prayer My Way’ tour has been canceled. This decision was not made lightly, and we understand the disappointment this may cause for fans. We deeply appreciate your understanding,” the statement read.

As of Sunday afternoon, Liberty Hall in Lawrence said they have not received an official cancellation nor figured out how and when they will refund tickets.

In 2015, Baker was picked up by 6131 Records and released her first solo album. She is also one-third of the indie supergroup Boygenius, with her partner Lucy Dacus and their friend Phoebe Bridgers, who debuted their first album in 2018. Last year, the group won three Grammys for their first full-length studio album, “The Record.”

Baker and TORRES’ duo is a new development in just the last year. In December they announced festival appearances together and in January announced their studio album.

They were expected to perform the top hits of the album that shares a name with the tour, including “Sylvia,” “Bottom of a Bottle” and “Sugar in the Tank.” In addition to the 12-track album, the two singers have sung four cover songs and debuted a new song titled “My Baby Loves Me More Than She Used To” during their April 25 show.

The tour started April 23 and was six shows in.
