Tickets go on sale soon for this popular folk band’s return to Kansas City
Fans of the folk band Mumford & Sons will wait to see them play live in the Kansas City area, but not for too much longer.
The band’s latest tour will travel through 32 arenas and amphitheaters in North America with more stops set for overseas cities like Berlin, Paris and London. They will come to Azura Amphitheater in Bonner Springs on Thursday, July 24.
Mumford & Sons’ latest album, “Rushmere,” released Friday, March 28. It’s the first album in seven years from the group made up of Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett and Ted Dwane. The album is named after a spot in the United Kingdom where the band members first met, according to Billboard.
Fans interested in buying tickets will need to sign up for the band’s presale on Ticketmaster. The sign-up window closes at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, and will go on sale Thursday, April 3. You can also join the official band’s community on Agora on Friday, March 28, to get exclusive access to tickets April 2.
Mumford & Sons announced they are teaming with PLUS 1 to support nonprofit War Child, with $1 from every ticket sold going to the organization to help and protect children affected by war.
The tour kicks off June 5 in Bend, Oregon. The opening act for their show in Kansas City is indie-rock singer Gregory Alan Iskov, but they will be joined by the likes of Japanese Breakfast, Michael Kiwanuka, Sierra Ferrell, Gigi Perez, Margo Price, Lucius, Madison Cunningham, Good Neighbours and Divorce on other stops during the tour.
The folk band, known for hit songs like “I Will Wait,” “The Cave,” “The Wolf” and “Little Lion Man,” formed in 2007 and made their major record label debut in 2009. Their 2012 album, “Babel,” had the biggest selling debut week of the year with over 600,000 units sold in the United States and over a million worldwide. It won Album of the Year at the Grammys in 2013.
“Rushmere” is the band’s fifth album. The band’s played at Azura Amphitheater twice before, both times in 2013 and at T-Mobile Center in 2016. They also played at recordBar in 2010 and the City Market in 2011.
Another connection to Kansas City? Mumford was the lead singer on the song “Kansas City,” featured on supergroup The New Basement Tapes’ 2014 release, “Lost On The River.” The album is a collection of discarded lyrics from legendary folk singer Bob Dylan.
