Coming storms could soak Kansas City with month’s worth of rain in just a few days
Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms will likely return to the Kansas City area beginning Tuesday, bringing the chance of flooding by the end of the week.
While the storms are not expected to be severe, they could cause flash flooding in some areas, as well as flooding along area rivers, creeks and streams, according to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill.
Between 2 and 4 inches of rain are expected in the next few days. Some areas could see higher rainfall totals.
These rounds of storms could bring the amount of rain the area typically sees in October. Kansas City’s average precipitation for the month of October is 3.16 inches, according to a tweet from the National Weather Service.

The storms are expected to begin to move into the Kansas City area Tuesday afternoon. Storms in northeast Kansas and northwestern Missouri as well as in southern Missouri are expected to converge on Kansas City throughout Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Widespread storms are likely Tuesday night and are expected to be light. The chance for showers increases Wednesday, with rain more likely along and south of Interstate 70.
Storm are expected to develop over Kansas Wednesday night and move into the Kansas City area late Wednesday and early Thursday. Some of these storms could produce heavy rainfall.
The chance of rain continues Thursday. Heavy rains are expected again Thursday night into Friday.
It’s uncertain as to where the heaviest rains will fall. Some forecast models suggest the heaviest precipitation will fall as far north as the Iowa/Missouri border while others place the heaviest rainfall along and north of Interstate 70, according to the National Weather Service.
It is during this time that flash flooding and river flooding has the best chance of occurring. Showers and thunderstorms are possible through Friday night.
Saturday looks as though it will be dry. The possibility of another round of showers and thunderstorms returns on Sunday and Monday.
