Father of Royals outfielder Alex Gordon dies

Michael Gordon, the father of Royals outfielder Alex Gordon, died on Wednesday, according to an obituary in the Lincoln Journal-Star. He was 63.

The father of four boys, including the former Nebraska standout and Royals All-Star left fielder, Michael Gordon, often known as Mike, worked as a sales manager for K&Z Distributing and Coca-Cola in Lincoln. He also served as his sons’ first coach.

A celebration of life is scheduled for Sunday in Lincoln. A Royals official offered thoughts and prayers to the Gordon family and said the club expected Alex Gordon to arrive at spring training after attending to all family arrangements.

Royals position players are set to report to camp on Sunday. The first official full-squad workout is on Monday.
