BV Northwest moves on to Kansas 6A baseball semifinals
Blue Valley Northwest took care of business 9-3 on Thursday against Topeka's Washburn Rural in the Kansas Class 6A high school baseball finals at the University of Kansas' Hoglund Stadium.
BV Northwest (18-5) plays Derby (17-6), a 5-0 winner over Olathe Northwest on Thursday, in the state semifinals Friday at 11 a.m.
Thursday's other quarterfinals featured Blue Valley (19-3) vs. Shawnee Mission Northwest (13-9) and Lawrence Free State (16-6) vs. Haysville-Campus (15-7).
Class 5A
Blue Valley Southwest bowed out of the state tournament, falling 3-2 in nine innings to Topeka-Seaman at Eck Stadium on the Wichita State campus
Shawnee Heights (21-2) of Tecumseh also advanced to the state semis with a 10-2 decision over Great Bend (9-14).
Mill Valley (14-8) was to play Bishop Carroll (19-3) later Thursday. The fourth quarterfinal featured Wichita Heights (20-2) vs. Maize (14-8).
Class 4A-DI
Tonganoxie (6-16) and Piper (18-4) are playing a Thursday evening quarterfinal in Emporia.
Class 4A-DII
KC's Bishop Ward (13-7) was to play Rock Creek (20-2) in a Thursday evening quarterfinal, weather permitting, in Salina.
Class 2-1A
Kansas City Christian (19-5) fell 2-1 to Brookville-Ell-Saline (17-7) to bow out of the state tourney at Great Bend.
