The Kansas athletic department has started construction on a $26 million indoor football practice facility that is set to be completed by late fall.

This project is part of the first phase of "Raise the Chant," a fundraising campaign focusing on football and KU's Memorial Stadium.

"It is extremely rewarding — to us and to our fans — to see construction fences up and shovels in the ground," KU athletic director Sheahon Zenger said in a release. "This state-of-the-art facility is a necessary component of our commitment to enable our football program to compete successfully in the Big 12 Conference."

The indoor practice space will be built on the west side of Memorial Stadium, west of the press box. Kansas City-based architect HNTB and general contractor JE Dunn are overseeing work for the 89,000-square-foot building.

Announced in September of 2017, "Raise the Chant" was originally projected as a five-year, $350 million fundraising effort, with $315 million earmarked for football.
