Kansas women’s basketball team wins exhibition opener
The Kansas women’s basketball team opened its exhibition schedule with a victory on Sunday afternoon.
The Jayhawks defeated Fort Hays State 98-71 at Allen Fieldhouse.
Four transfers, including sophomore McKenzie Calvert and junior Jessica Washington, made their unofficial debuts for second-year coach Brandon Schneider after sitting out last season due to NCAA transfer rules.
Calvert and Chayla Cheadle each scored 18 points to lead the Jayhawks, while Washington added 15 with a team-high eight rebounds.
Fort Hayes was led by 12 points from Taylor Rolfs.
Kansas will host Washburn at 1 p.m. next Sunday in its second and final exhibition before opening the regular season against Missouri State on Nov. 13.
