Letters: Readers discuss Democrats’ hate of the U.S., Sam Graves’ survey and Jeff Colyer
Democrats’ fraud
I am totally confused. It is abundantly clear that the Democratic Party hates the United States as founded.
Watching the State of the Union speech, I was confounded by the way the Democrats sat on their hands for virtually all the speech, even when the president reiterated the good news about jobs, pay raises and bonuses since the tax cut — things that all Americans should be very happy about.
But Democrats sat there with sour expressions on their faces.
What do the Democrats stand for? Abortion. Homosexual rights. Illegal aliens. They claim (Hillary Clinton does) to fight for the rights of women, but actions speak louder than words.
It’s time Democratic voters wake up to the fraud of their leadership, but they are like the three monkeys: See no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil of a Democrat.
God help us if they don’t wake up to all the lies they are being fed by the ultra-leftist media.

Invalid data
You insult my intelligence, Rep. Sam Graves. You sent me an online survey via email but are are not allowing it to give you valid constituent feedback.
For the question, “Do you believe restricting access to guns for law-abiding citizens will prevent gun violence?” the choices are yes, no or unsure. This is called a loaded question. You are talking only about “law-abiding citizens,” but they are not the problem among gun owners. You are free to interpret the responses any way you want, and then to use this new “data” as hard facts to show what your constituents support.
And the last question, “Do you support securing our south border and efforts to build a wall?” is actually two questions. How to answer?
I support securing our southern border, but I do not want a wall. I do want border security. And I want a path to citizenship for Dreamers.
Your feedback will be tainted, and you will eat it all up, thinking how good and accurate you are in representing the people. Simplify your questions and get valid responses. Your actions, taken with this survey as “facts,” are misdirected and flat-out bad legislating.

High stakes
Why is the Republican Party willing to tear down our democratic institutions to shield President Donald Trump from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation?
Trump says he is innocent, but keeps doing things that blare “guilty.” If he is innocent, then let the process play out and he will be vindicated. Why is he so afraid?
The memo fiasco only helps Russian President Vladimir Putin and his wish to smash our confidence in our democratic institutions. Why let this murderous despot play with our democracy and ruin our wonderful country?
This goes beyond politics. This is about our country’s survival against a strong, capable opponent who will not stop.
Please think beyond partisan politics. This is too important.

Problematic flag
In the not-too-distant past, the University of Missouri’s Columbia campus was wracked with racial dissent over the Battle Flag of Northern Virginia, usually referred to as the Confederate Southern cross flag, and an image of a swastika. The repercussions are still being felt. The result has been a ban of both images from all university system campuses.
But the Rolla campus allows the Japanese Rising Sun battle flag to be displayed in dorm room windows, with the responsible individuals mostly anonymous to the public.
Those flags are an insult to many in the community, and despite my protestations, nothing is being done to remove them from the windows.
Please, can you do something to bring light to the hypocrisy of the Missouri University of Science and Technology in its dealings with hateful banners and symbols?

A simple question
It is time to test Kansas’ new governor. Is he a clone of Sam Brownback or not?
The Legislature should pass the Medicaid expansion bill that Brownback vetoed last year. If the new governor vetoes it, we know that nothing has changed, and we will know how to vote in November.

Not toys
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m really tired of seeing the two grinning “bobbleheads” standing behind President Donald Trump, shaking their heads in agreement with everything he utters — including his lies.
Does that not make them complicit?
