'We are with you': Area police mourn with Clinton, Mo., after officer is fatally shot
Police officers from the Kansas City region are offering their condolences following the news that a 30-year-old Clinton, Mo., police officer was fatally shot and two others were injured while responding to a 911 call late Tuesday night.
The deceased officer was identified as Christopher Ryan Morton, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Morton is the second Clinton police officer shot and killed in the line of duty in seven months. Another Clinton officer, Gary Michael, 37, was mortally wounded in a shooting while conducting a traffic stop on Aug. 6.
According to the highway patrol, Morton served as a full-time officer from February 2015 until January 2017. He stayed with the department as reserve officer until he returned again to full-time duty on Sept. 24, more than a month after Michael was shot and killed.
A suspect in the shooting of Morton and two other officers also died Tuesday night, the highway patrol said.
On Wednesday, several law enforcement agencies from across the region shared on social media words of sadness, thoughts and prayers.
