The Kansas City Council approved the appointment Thursday of three members to a board to oversee spending of a new sales tax for Prospect Avenue development.

The council approved Mayor Sly James’ appointment of Keith Brown, Donna Wilson and Herb Hardwick to the new board of directors of the Central City Economic Development Sales Tax Board.

The board will also have Jackson County appointee Melissa Patterson Hazley and Kansas City Public Schools appointee Ron Finley.

The board members will be stewards of the revenues generated by a new one-eighth-cent citywide sales tax that Kansas City voters approved in April to promote economic development along the Prospect Avenue corridor. The tax takes effect in October, will last for 10 years and is expected to generate more than $8 million per year.
