Million-dollar Northland home scene of two fatal shootings, FBI probe

Two weeks ago, 62-year-old Sandra Sellers was found shot to death in her million-dollar Northland home, a man lying unconscious next to her.

On Tuesday morning, her husband, Mark Sellers, 64, shot and killed himself after spotting 20 heavily armed federal agents and Kansas City police officers converging on the couple’s home.

The house on Cosby Court near Northwest 60th Street allegedly was being searched around 7:30 a.m. as a part of an ongoing fraud investigation, according to sources familiar with the incident who asked not to be identified.

An FBI spokeswoman said she could not comment on the type of investigation that was being conducted.

When Sellers drove up to his house Tuesday morning to find the hordes of law officers, he drove away and, while still in the neighborhood, shot himself.

The FBI spokeswoman said Sellers was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.

Neighbors said an SUV parked nearby had a broken driver’s side window.

“The entire street was filled with cars, slamming doors, FBI agents,” said Amy Brown, a neighbor. “We are this quiet neighborhood, and you have FBI agents swarming your neighborhood. We didn’t know what was going on.”

FBI agents blocked off the street for about two hours as crime scene investigators collected evidence. No one was allowed to enter or leave the perimeter, said Alan McCracken, who also lives nearby.

A woman identified Tuesday as Sandra Sellers was found fatally shot at the home on July 18, four days shy of her 63rd birthday.

According to police at the time, the woman was lying face up on the bed with an apparent gunshot wound to the left side of her head and a firearm in her left hand. A man was lying on the bed next to her and was breathing but not responsive. Emergency medical personnel pronounced the woman dead and took the man to a hospital to be treated for what police called a medical emergency.

At the time, police said they were not looking for any suspects.

The home is listed for sale at $1.295 million. The listing boasts 8,800 square feet of space with four bedrooms, five full bathrooms and two half-baths.
