Clay County prosecutors have accused a 56-year-old man of exposing himself to a child at Oceans of Fun and grabbing the buttocks of another child.

William Alex Kendrick of Kansas City is charged with sexual misconduct involving a child and third-degree assault for the incidents that occurred Thursday at the water park’s wave pool.

Kendrick is being held at the Clay County Detention Center in lieu of $15,000 bond.

According to court records, a 12-year-old girl said she was underwater at the wave pool when Kendrick walked up while exposing himself. The girl said she became scared, left the pool and told her father, who was nearby. The 35-year-old father confronted Kendrick and punched him.

In another incident, a 13-year-old girl said she was swimming in the wave pool and noticed a man who kept getting close to her and her friend. The man, later identified as Kendrick, kept walking between them. At one point, Kendrick grabbed the girl’s buttocks. The waves in the pool were not activated and the water was calm. There was plenty of room for Kendrick to move around, but he stayed near them.

A third girl said she noticed that Kendrick kept walking very close around her and a friend. The girl said she became uncomfortable because Kendrick kept brushing up against her.

Kendrick declined to speak with investigators about the incidents at the wave pool. Kendrick was taken to the Clay County Detention Center and again refused to speak to investigators.
