Gunfire in street nearly hits elderly south Kansas City woman inside home
An elderly woman told police that she was nearly struck by gunfire early Monday when someone in a large group outside her south Kansas City home began shooting.
The shooting happened just after midnight in the 10700 block of Wheeling Avenue. A motorist told police he pulled up to a group of about 30 young adults standing in the middle of the street who would not allow his car to pass.
The motorist said he finally was allowed to continue but when he drove through the group, someone starting shooting. He was not injured, but several bullets hit a nearby residence.
One bullet went through a bedroom wall and nearly struck a woman. She was not injured.
After driving to Raytown, the motorist noticed several bullet holes in his vehicle.
Police recovered more than 20 shell casings from different weapons at the intersection at 109th Street and Beacon Avenue. Bullets struck an unoccupied vehicle parked at 108th Street and Beacon Avenue.
