Man and woman are found shot to death in a car in Kansas City
Kansas City police responding to a shots-fired call around 4 a.m. Saturday found a man and a woman dead in a car in the 3800 block of Park Avenue.
Details of how the shootings occurred were not released.
Police found more than 20 shell casings near the vehicle. The vehicle’s doors were open when officers arrived.
The woman was in her mid-50s. The man was in his late 50s or early 60s and had moved to the neighborhood several months ago. Both were shot at close range.
Investigators have not determined whether the slayings were related to a double shooting that occurred Thursday night in the same neighborhood.
In that incident, officers were called to a residence and found a 13-year-old girl and a 28-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds to their lower bodies. The injuries were not life-threatening.
Witnesses said a black Lincoln Navigator circled the block and pulled up in front of the residence, and someone fired multiple rounds from an assault rifle, hitting both victims. The vehicle then sped north on Park Avenue.
Police said they were looking for a newer-model black Jeep Wrangler with a black spare tire with a silver rim on the back.
Anyone with information on the shootings is asked to contact the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
The slayings Saturday were the city’s 42nd and 43rd homicides of the year.
