Johnson County prosecutors have dropped charges against an 18-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man who had been accused in a double homicide in Overland Park.

Donnell Cortez Preston had been charged with murder, burglary and robbery in connection with the June 30 shooting deaths of 18-year-old Velik L. Henderson of Overland Park and 19-year-old Trevon D. Anderson of Kansas City, Kan.

All of those charges were dismissed Monday. A preliminary hearing had been scheduled that day for evidence to be presented in court.

Another man, Marquise D. Stokes, 18, of Kansas City, Kan., remains charged in the case. He is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 14.

Police think the killings were connected to the shooting six days later of a 36-year-old mother and her 11-year-old daughter on the same block. The mother died.
