Lenexa man pleads guilty to secretly photographing women in college restrooms
A registered sex offender admitted Thursday that he videotaped unsuspecting women in restrooms at Johnson County Community College.
Saysavat Bounyadeth, 39, pleaded guilty in Johnson County District Court to three felony counts of breach of privacy. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 27.
All three incidents occurred in April. Bounyadeth, of Lenexa, had been released from prison the month before after serving time for another sexually motivated crime.
Campus police arrested him April 27 after a woman noticed him using his cellphone to photograph her inside a restroom on the Overland Park campus.
The woman chased after him. Construction workers who heard her screaming stopped him until police arrived.
Prosecutors charged him with that crime and another that occurred April 20.
After investigators obtained a search warrant, they found additional videos on his cellphone, and he was charged with the third count.
Assistant District Attorney Josh Brunkhorst said in court Thursday that investigators found 30 to 40 videos on the phone that were taken at the college, but they were unable to identify the victims.
Bounyadeth previously was convicted for a December 2013 burglary in Olathe in which he stole underwear and lingerie belonging to a 19-year-old woman. He initially was placed on probation and ordered to undergo sex offender treatment.
But his probation was revoked and he was sent to prison for failing to complete the treatment.
