A registered sex offender released from a Kansas prison last month was accused Wednesday of photographing unsuspecting women on the Johnson County Community College campus.

Campus police arrested Saysavat Bounyadeth, 39, of Lenexa, on Monday after a woman noticed him allegedly trying to take pictures of her inside a restroom on the Overland Park campus.

She chased him. Construction workers caught and held him until campus police arrived.

Bounyadeth did not attend the college or work there, college officials said.

On Wednesday, Johnson County prosecutors charged him with a felony count of invasion of privacy for the Monday incident. They also charged him with invasion of privacy for an April 20 incident involving another woman, according to court documents.

Bounyadeth had been released from prison March 18, according to Kansas Department of Corrections records.

He entered prison late last year after his probation was revoked for failing to complete sex offender treatment ordered in a “sexually motivated” burglary case.

In that incident, Bounyadeth broke into a 19-year-old Olathe woman’s apartment in December 2013 and stole $425 worth of underwear and lingerie, according to Johnson County court records.

A judge ruled that the crime was sexually motivated, which meant Bounyadeth had to register as a sex offender after he pleaded guilty in February 2014.

After his probation was revoked in October, he was ordered to prison to serve the remainder of the one-year sentence imposed before he was granted probation.

Bounyadeth made his first court appearance on the new charges Wednesday afternoon and asked for a court-appointed lawyer. His bond was set at $50,000. A judge ordered that if Bounyadeth posts bond, he cannot go on the property of Johnson County Community College.
