Convicted serial burglar targets Johnson County churches and parochial schools
A 59-year-old Shawnee man with a history of church and religious school break-ins is facing new charges of burglary to a church.
John B. Bejan was charged Monday in Johnson County District Court with the aggravated burglary of St. Rose Catholic Church in Westwood.
He also was charged with the theft of property.
Bejan was booked into the Johnson County Detention Center Tuesday. His bond is set at $10,000.
He is currently on probation in another burglary case, according to court records.
In January, Bejan pleaded guilty to the attempted aggravated burglary of the Good Shepherd Parish school in Shawnee and the theft of a calculator and label maker.
In March he was sentenced to two years of probation.
In 2010, Bejan was charged with burglarizing St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park and three burglaries of the Lenexa Baptist Church.
He was also charged with the theft of musical instruments, a laptop computer and other items.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary in the 2010 case and was sentenced to four years and seven months in prison.
