A man was found dead inside a vehicle in the woods late Thursday, Kansas City, Kan., police said in a news release.

Police were called to the 100 block of New Jersey Avenue to investigate a report of shots fired at around 10:45 p.m.

Officers located an SUV in the woods just east of this location. Police approached the vehicle and found a man dead from a gunshot wound, according to the news release.

The victim's identity has not yet been released.

Police are investigating the death as a homicide.
