After being turned away from a Kansas City motel, a man allegedly fired a gun into the air outside.
Police were called and Adrian D. Milligan, 41, is now charged in federal court with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to court documents, Milligan and two other people went to the Arrowhead Inn in the 6000 block of East 31st Street early Friday and asked for a room.
The clerk told them none were available.
According to court documents, after the three people left, the clerk saw one of them fire a gunshot in the air outside.
The clerk called police and when officers arrived they spotted Milligan carrying a 9mm semi-automatic handgun in his pants pocket, according to the documents.
When police did a check of the gun's serial number, they found that it had been reported stolen in Overland Park.
Overland Park police said the gun was stolen in 2015 from a residence in the area of 158th Street and Nall Avenue.
Milligan has several previous felony convictions, according to court records, and cannot legally possess a firearm.
