Parent with gun at Blue Springs elementary school is arrested
A parent who allegedly brought a gun to a Blue Springs elementary school was arrested Wednesday, according to the Blue Springs Police Department.
Jennifer Dachenhausen, a spokeswoman for Blue Springs police, said school officials informed police that the parent was in possession of a firearm and narcotics at James Walker Elementary School.
The parent was known to office staff and was allowed to use a phone in the building before staff became alarmed, according to an email police received from Katie Woolf, a spokeswoman for the Blue Springs School District.
The parent left the school, Woolf wrote, and no additional safety measures were taken within the school.
Outside, the school's Department of Public Safety detained the parent, who was arrested by Blue Springs police.
The parent remained in police custody Wednesday afternoon.
Blue Springs police said the case is being forwarded to federal prosecutors for possible charges.
