Man shot, killed in KC after running stop sign and striking vehicle, police say
A man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a shooting near 23rd and Denver streets following a multi-vehicle crash.
The shooter was at-large as of Tuesday evening.
A subject of interest is sought in the shooting. He was last seen in a 2003 White Chevy Trailblazer with a Missouri license plate of UJ0-J2U. The vehicle was not involved in the crash.
The shooting occurred after the victim, who was driving a green truck, ran a stop sign on Denver Avenue and crashed into a white SUV headed eastbound on 23rd Street, Kansas City police said.
Police believe the shooter was not involved in the crash and shot the driver of the green truck after the driver exited his vehicle, either on 23rd or on Denver Avenue.
An altercation preceded the shooting.
The shooter fled the scene in a vehicle, said Lionel Colón, a police spokesman.
The driver of the white SUV involved in the crash was unharmed and was not involved in the shooting. The white SUV crashed into a nearby house after being struck by the truck, which was headed northbound on Denver, police said.
It remains unclear if the victim was alone in the green truck at the time of the crash. The victim was pronounced dead at a hospital.
