Guess what clue led investigators to this suspect in church burglary
Crime scene investigators often rely on microscopic examinations to catch a perpetrator.
That was not the case Saturday inside a burglarized Cass County church.
All they had to do was pick up the wallet on the floor and look at the driver’s license inside.
The face on that license belonged to 20-year-old James F. Cornett who is now charged with second-degree burglary of the Creighton United Methodist Church.
According to Cass County court records, someone broke into the church in the Cass County community of Creighton and stole a 55-inch flat screen television, an office copier and about $100 worth of groceries.
The wallet was found on the floor among shards of glass from a broken window.
When investigators tracked down Cornett, he said that someone had taken his wallet, according to the documents.
Although he said he was innocent, he offered to pay for the damage because he said he was a Christian and felt bad about what happened.
