KCK man arrested with AR-15 rifle and 1,300 rounds of ammo after Lawrence car chase
A man arrested early Wednesday after a car chase in Lawrence had an AR-15 rifle in his vehicle and 1,300 rounds of ammunition, officials said.
Vince Wyatt Jr., 26, of Kansas City, Kan., was charged with aggravated assault, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, possession of methamphetamine with the intent to sell and several traffic offenses.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy pulled Wyatt over for a traffic violation and spotted the rifle in the man’s vehicle.
The deputy called for backup and when other deputies arrived, Wyatt allegedly drove away and was pursued by deputies.
During the pursuit, Wyatt’s car allegedly struck a parked vehicle and almost hit a pedestrian, according to the sheriff’s office.
The pursuit ended after a deputy used a maneuver to safely stop the vehicle.
No one was injured in the incident.
Besides the rifle and ammunition, deputies also found marijuana and methamphetamine.
Authorities said that Wyatt is a convicted felon and cannot legally possess a firearm.
