Neighbors in a small community west of the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., said they were surprised to hear that a man had been fatally shot inside one of the homes there late Saturday.
Officers responded to reports of a disturbance about 11 p.m. Saturday at a house in the 1700 block of North 127th Street. Arriving officers found the body of a man in his late 40s inside the house. He had been shot in the abdomen, police said Sunday.
Residents described the neighborhood as quiet and diverse. The neighborhood is a relatively new one and includes some fourplexes built in the last few years.
Neighbors said they were shocked to find out about the shooting.
“The worst thing that happens on the street is that people don’t put their trash in bags and the trash runs around sometimes,” said a neighbor who preferred not to give her name for safety reasons. “We’ve heard of car break-ins before, but never any homicides.”
Police said the man’s identity was being withheld until it could be verified and family could be notified. Police did not release any suspect information or say whether anyone was in custody.
Anyone with information about the fatal shooting is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
