Death sentence upheld for Kansas man who killed his wife and daughters

The Kansas Supreme Court on Friday upheld the death sentence of a man who claimed he was mentally ill when he killed four family members in Osage County.

James Kraig Kahler, now 55, was convicted of capital murder for the 2009 killings of his two teenage daughters, his wife and his wife’s grandmother.

An Osage County jury found Kahler guilty in 2011 and he was sentenced to death.

In Friday’s ruling, the Supreme Court rejected all 10 of the issues Kahler’s attorneys raised on appeal, including the argument that he was not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
