A Kansas City man told police he was shot in the leg early Thursday while driving on Bruce Watkins Drive at Gregory Boulevard.

Officers responded the victim’s house in the 4900 block of Garfield Avenue just after midnight. The man’s wife had called police because she thought a prowler was outside their home.

The wife said she heard a noise, went outside to investigate and found her husband sprawled on the front porch. He had collapsed with a gunshot to the leg, according to police.

The husband told investigators he was driving northbound on Watkins Drive near Gregory Boulevard when the occupants of another vehicle started shooting at him. The husband sped home after he was struck in the leg. His injury was not life-threatening, police said.

Police did not release suspect information. The shooting remains under investigation.
