Boy calls 911 after woman shot inside home on Monroe Avenue, KC police say

A 10-year-old boy called 911 after police said his mother was shot and killed inside a home in the 2300 block of Monroe Avenue Wednesday night.

Kansas City police went to the scene after receiving a call of a shooting in the home at about 8 p.m. Wednesday. When officers arrived, they found a deceased woman just inside the door.

Darin Snapp, a Kansas City police spokesman, said it appeared the woman was opening the door for someone when she was shot. There were no signs of forced entry at the home, police said.

The victim’s name and age have not yet been released, though police said the woman was in her 30s.

Police believe the 10-year-old boy was inside the home at the time of the shooting.

There was no suspect description as of Wednesday night.

Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
