25-year-old dies following shooting at south KC apartment complex
Police were investigating a shooting that killed a 25-year-old man outside a south Kansas City apartment complex in the 1500 block of East 97th Street on Monday.
The victim was identified by police as Travis D. Mills, of Kansas City.
Kansas City police officers went to the scene around 2 p.m. Monday after receiving a report of a shooting.
Police said they found a male victim, Mills, who was taken to the hospital by the Kansas City Fire Department. Mills died shortly after arriving at the hospital, according to police.
The shooting death is being investigated as a homicide.
In a news release, police said they were asking for the public’s help in finding a person of interest in connection to the fatal shooting. The person was identified as Malik S. Chapple, 21.
Police also released a description and photos of a vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting. The vehicle was described as a gold 2011 Chevrolet Cruze with Kansas temporary tags.
Anyone who finds the person of interest or the vehicle is asked to contact the KCPD Homicide Unit at 816-234-5043.
At the scene Monday afternoon, police spent at least two hours collecting evidence in a parking lot outside an apartment complex at The Fountains at LindenWoods. A silver car in the lot with a Kansas license plate was towed from the scene.
