Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in which a gun fired once while two men were fighting over it, wounding both men in the leg.

Police responded to the shooting about 10 p.m. Sunday in the 700 block of Southwest Windsong Circle in Lee’s Summit.

Arriving officers found a gunshot victim in front of a home in the area. They found the second gunshot victim inside a vehicle several blocks away, according to police.

Police received conflicting statements but determined that the men had been fighting in the street in front of the residence.

During the fight, one of the men pulled out a handgun. The two men then struggled for control of the firearm and it fired, striking both men in the leg, according to police.

Both men were taken to hospitals, each with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting Monday.
