Police investigate separate homicides nearly 30 minutes apart in KC

Police are investigating separate shootings that left two men dead Thursday nearly 30 minutes apart in different areas of Kansas City.

The first shooting was reported shortly before 9 p.m. near East 11th Street and Benton Boulevard in Kansas City.

According to police, the victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The second shooting was reported about 9:25 p.m. near East 35th Street and Askew Avenue.

According to police, the victim in that shooting was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Police identified the man Friday as 19-year-old Brezelious Shackelford of Kansas City.

The men’s death was the city’s 88th and 89th homicide of the year.
