One killed in chain reaction traffic crash at Kansas 7 and Parallel Parkway

A driver stopped in traffic Thursday morning was killed when another driver crashed into the rear of an SUV in western Wyandotte County, Kansas City, Kan., police said.

The wreck, involving four vehicles, was reported just after 10 a.m. Thursday at Kansas 7 and Parallel Parkway.

Police said that a white SUV was westbound on Parallel when it rear-ended a tan SUV that was stopped at the intersection at Kansas 7.

The force of the collision knocked the tan SUV into a box truck that then struck another SUV.

The driver of the tan SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. The white SUV driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The drivers of the other two vehicles suffered minor injuries, according to police.

Northbound K-7 was closed for several hours before it was re-opened early Thursday afternoon.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash. The name of the victim has not been released.
