Man found dead in Blue Springs; relative arrested after vehicle pursuit

A 77-year-old man was found dead Friday evening during an assault investigation inside a Blue Springs residence.

Police later arrested a 21-year-old male relative of the deceased man and another relative who was assaulted during the altercation.

The name of the deceased man and how he died was not released by police.

Local media reports the man’s name was Harvey Baldwin.

Police were called to the residence in the 1400 block of Southwest 23rd Street around 8:20 p.m. A man told arriving officers that he was assaulted by his nephew who drove away in a pickup before police arrived.

The victim was treated at a hospital. Officers searched the residence and found the 77-year-old man deceased. The man’s vehicle was also missing.

A Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy later spotted the stolen vehicle and initiated a pursuit. The 21-year-old driver was arrested when the chase ended at Interstate 435 and Truman Road, police said.
