Neighbors puzzle over man found slain behind Bales Avenue home
The shooting death of a man Wednesday in the 5700 block of Bales Avenue left some neighbors puzzled as to the man’s identity while the police investigation continues.
Kansas City police responded to the shooting about 7:30 p.m. and found the man dead behind a house. Police have not released the man’s name.
On Thursday, a woman living at the house said the man was found on her back porch and that she did not know who he was.
The woman said she had four children and a disabled brother living in the home and had been in her basement when she heard four or five gunshots.
The woman said the shooting was disturbing.
Neighbors elsewhere on the block said they heard what sounded like gunfire from an automatic weapon.
The man’s death was the 45th homicide reported in Kansas City in 2017, compared with 38 at the same time last year.
