Police released surveillance video Wednesday in hopes of identifying a person of interest in a racially motivated property damage case at a Blue Springs barbershop.

The racially charged messages were spray-painted on the windows of Turn-N-Headz Barber Shop on May 10. The shop is located in the 800 block of U.S 40.

The same two words appeared on three separate windows in black paint: “Die (N-word).”

In a statement, Blue Springs Mayor Carson Ross called on the community to help solve the case.

“There is someone out there that knows something and I call on them to step forward and say something,” Ross said. “This manifestation of racial hatred is a cowardly act. Although it has been rare in the 43 years my family has lived in Blue Springs — no community is exempt from ill-willed people doing unacceptable things. It is not welcome in Blue Springs and we will meet it head on.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 816-228-0151 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
