Leawood police identify woman killed in State Line Road traffic crash
The woman killed in a Sunday morning crash on State Line Road was identified Tuesday as 69-year-old Donna Manning.
Manning, of Overland Park, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by her 71-year-old husband when it was involved in a collision with another vehicle at 119th Street and State Line, according to Leawood police.
Manning’s husband, Bill Manning, was seriously injured and remained hospitalized Tuesday. The driver of the other vehicle was also injured but has been released from the hospital.
Police said the Mannings were driving east on 119th Street when their vehicle was struck by a pickup truck heading south on State Line. Both vehicles then struck a third vehicle. Its driver was not injured.
Police said Tuesday they are continuing to investigate the crash.
The crash occurred near Kansas City First Church of the Nazarene, where Bill and Donna Manning were headed. They have been members of the church for decades, said the Rev. Brad Estep.
Many congregation members saw the aftermath of the wreck but did not know that the Mannings were involved until near the end of Sunday’s service when Estep got word and told the congregation.
Bill Manning had once been an associate pastor at the church, and both Mannings had worked for the Nazarene Publishing House. Estep said that among other duties, Donna Manning had written children’s books that told the stories of missionaries around the world.
He described both as “quiet, faithful, loving people” and “wonderful disciples of Jesus.”
Estep said Bill Manning underwent surgery Sunday and came through it well.
“He wanted to thank everyone for all of their prayers and support,” he said.
