Pedestrian is struck and killed by vehicle on U.S. 71
A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed while trying to cross U.S. 71 in Kansas City on Friday night, according to police.
The incident was reported to police about 10:15 p.m. Friday near 53rd Street. A vehicle traveling south on U.S. 71 hit the pedestrian despite swerving off the road in an attempt to avoid the person.
The pedestrian died at the scene.
The driver was not injured, according to police. Officers spoke with a witness who saw the incident.
