Kansas City police officers wreck as they speed to an emergency
Two Kansas City police officers were injured Monday at 77th Street and Prospect Avenue when one police car ran into the other as they were racing to respond to an emergency.
The accident happened about 10:30 a.m. when the officers in separate vehicles wrecked while responding to an emergency. Both officers were heading north in tandem on Prospect when an officer made a left turn and was struck by the other vehicle, said Sgt. Bill Mahoney with the department’s accident investigations unit.
The officer who struck the first vehicle slid into a utility pole. He suffered a hip injury and was rushed to a hospital in serious condition. The other officer had minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. The injuries are not life-threatening.
No other vehicles were involved in the collision, and no other injuries were reported, Mahoney said.
