A single-engine Mooney airplane landed on its belly with its gear up about noon Sunday at the Wheeler Downtown Airport.

The plane was landing to the south on Runway 19 on the airport’s main runway 1/19 . The plane slid through the intersection of runways 1/19  and 3/21 , forcing both runways to close, according to Joe McBride, a spokesman for the Kansas City Aviation Department.

The airfield remain closed for about three hours while crews cleared the debris and removed the aircraft.

The pilot, the only one on board the plane, was not injured.
