Fire engulfs apartment building and displaces residents in Kansas City’s Northland
A two-alarm fire engulfed a building in an apartment complex overnight in Kansas City’s Northland, displacing several residents, a fire department spokesman said.
The blaze was reported at about 12:45 a.m. Tuesday in the 4000 block of North Bennington Avenue in Kansas City’s Hill Haven neighborhood, said Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins with the Kansas City Fire Department.
Arriving firefighters reported heavy fire coming from a three-story apartment building. Because of the extent of the fire, Hopkins said the first crews requested a second alarm be sounded to bring additional firefighters and trucks to stage at the scene.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control after about 30 minutes. The blaze damaged five apartments in the building. The Red Cross was helping four adults.
No one was injured in the blaze, although a firefighter was taken to a hospital to evaluate heat-related issues.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
