Firefighters returning to station find man’s body floating in Kansas City’s Brush Creek
A man was declared dead after firefighters found his body floating in Brush Creek in Kansas City and pulled him from the water Monday evening, a fire department spokesman said.
Crews aboard a rescue truck returning to their station near Emanuel Cleaver II and Cleveland Avenue about 7:45 p.m. Monday spotted what appeared to be a body in the creek, said Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins with the Kansas City Fire Department.
The firefighters stopped, and after confirming that it was a person in the creek they requested additional resources, Hopkins said. Firefighters pulled the man from the water and began CPR.
Emergency crews continued to try to resuscitate the man as they took him to a hospital. Shortly after arriving, the emergency room staff declared the man dead, Hopkins said.
The man, who did not have identification, is believed to be 40 to 50 years old. Hopkins said police will handle the investigation into his death.
