Driver dies after pickup truck leaves road, strikes tree in Independence, police say
A driver died Tuesday evening after his pickup truck left a roadway and struck a tree in Independence, police said.
Before 5:50 p.m., the eastbound Chevrolet truck left the street near R.D. Mize Road and South Maybrook Avenue, and went through a yard and fence before hitting the tree, according to the Independence Police Department.
The driver, the truck’s lone occupant, was taken to a hospital, where he died, police said. He has not yet been identified publicly.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Police said the driver may have suffered a medical emergency.
