Police investigate man’s death after decomposing body found near Kansas City park

Police were investigating the death of a man after his body was found in advance stages of decomposition in a wooded area near a Kansas City park, police said in an email.

A caller notified police shortly before 1 p.m. that they found a dead body near Corrington Park at East 18th Street and Bristol Avenue, said Officer Doaa El-Ashkar, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.

The caller led responding officers to the unknown adult male’s body in a wooded area, she said. The area is along the Blue River just northwest of East 23rd Street and Interstate 435.

Detectives were canvassing the area for any information including anyone who might have known the man. Crime scene investigators were collecting evidence from the scene, El-Ashkar said.

Anyone with information about the man’s death is asked to call the Kansas City Police Department’s homicide unit at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
