Southbound I-29 near KCI reopens after semi truck fire causes shut down
Update: Southbound lanes have been reopened, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.
The southbound lanes of Interstate 29 near the Kansas City International Airport have been shut down after a semi truck traveling on the highway caught fire, officials say.
At about 8 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol tweeted an alert saying both northbound and southbound I-29 lanes at Cookingham Drive were blocked due to a “car fire.”
By 8:30 p.m. the same account announced that northbound lanes had been reopened, while southbound lanes remained closed.
At about 8:50 p.m. the Missouri Department of Transportation tweeted an alert to drivers that cars on a transport truck were among the vehicles still burning and that the southbound I-29 roadway would be closed for “at least 2-3 hours.”
No injuries have been reported.
