The Missouri Health Department alerted the public Thursday about two new possible measles exposure areas, including Nebraska Furniture Mart.

The department listed known locations where exposures may have occurred earlier this month. They were:

April 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the KCI Expo–Center Midwest Parent Educators Vendor Hall, 11730 N.W. Ambassador Drive.

April 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Nebraska Furniture Mart, 1601 Village West Parkway in Kansas City, Kan.

The health department said the measles virus can remain infectious in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves the area, and people should check with their health care provider to make sure they are up to date on vaccines.

Kansas City so far has had four measles cases this spring.

One of those cases prompted the Clay County Public Health Center to send a letter Wednesday to parents of Warren Hills Elementary School in Liberty, saying a Kansas City child who attends the school had measles.

The letter made clear that Clay County health officials believed there was no measles exposure to any parents, students, staff or guests at the school. The Kansas City health department said Thursday that the child was never at the school during the infectious period. The Missouri and Kansas City health departments provided no specific information on that measles patient or a second recent patient.

Two more measles cases have also been reported in eastern Kansas, according to the Kansas health department. One of those was in Johnson County and one in Linn County. That brings the total measles outbreak in eastern Kansas, since March 8, to 18. It includes 14 in Johnson County, 3 in Linn County and 1 in Miami County.
