Former Leavenworth VA medical center worker guilty of sex crimes against veterans
A former worker at the VA medical center in Leavenworth was convicted Wednesday of committing sex crimes against four patients.
A Leavenworth County District Court jury found Mark E. Wisner guilty of criminal sodomy, aggravated sexual battery and three counts of sexual battery involving former patients at the medical center where Wisner worked as a physician assistant.
According to trial testimony, Wisner, 66, performed improper and medically unnecessary genital examinations on patients over a period of several years before he resigned and had his license to practice revoked in 2015.
The four victims testified about their encounters with Wisner who also made improper sexual comments during the examinations.
Wisner did not testify and the defense rested its case Wednesday without presenting evidence.
Several dozen former patients have filed civil lawsuits alleging the same type of improper conduct by Wisner.
