The driver of a car that left the road early Tuesday and crashed into a tree south of Gardner in rural Johnson County has been identified as Haylei J. Bell, 17, of Gardner.

The crash occurred about 7:40 a.m. along 207th Street between Cedar Niles and Moonlight roads, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s office.

Bell died at the scene and a second person was taken to the hospital.

Crash investigators closed 207th Street between Cedar Niles and Moonlight roads after the wreck.
