Malachi Roach, 17, of Kearney dies after crash at Tryst Falls Park
A 17-year-old Kearney boy died late Sunday after the car he was a passenger in crashed at the entrance of Tryst Falls Park.
Malachi Roach died in the single-vehicle crash about 10:40 p.m. Sunday at the entrance to scenic waterfall that is on Missouri 92 between Kearney and Excelsior Springs, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.
Roach was passenger in a 2007 Ford Focus that was driven by a 17-year-old Excelsior Springs girl. A 16-year-old Kearney girl was also a passenger.
All three teenagers were taken to the hospital, where Malachi died. The two girls had moderate injuries.
The crash occurred as the car was headed east on Missouri 92. The car’s right front tire went off the road and struck the driveway entrance into the park., according to the Highway Patrol.
The driver lost control of the car, which began to rotate and slid off the left side of the road. The car then struck a stone mailbox and crossed a private drive and went down an embankment, where it came to rest on its wheels, according to the Highway Patrol
Malachi was a student at Kearney High School, according to his Facebook page.
