29-year-old man dies after SUV smashes into tree and catches fire in Olathe
A 29-year-old man died after the SUV he was driving crashed into a tree along Santa Fe Street in Olathe and caught fire Tuesday morning.
The single-vehicle crash occurred about 6 a.m. near North Parker Street as the SUV was headed east on Santa Fe. The SUV left the road and struck a tree.
An officer arriving at the crash pulled the driver from the burning SUV. The man, however, died at the scene.
Westbound Santa Fe was closed between Parker and Olathe View Road while police investigated. One lane of westbound Santa Fe reopened about 8:15 a.m. Eastbound Santa Fe remained open.
